FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does the program cost?
Thanks to the support of Holyrood Church and our generous donors and supporters, WHCS is a FREE program.
I don't speak any English, can my kids still go?
Yes! All of our written communication with parents is offered in English and Spanish, and our Artistic Director and several of our faculty members speak Spanish as well.
Do you offer school pick-up?
WHCS currently offers after-school pick-up from Dos Puentes Elementary School and TEP Lower School. We hope to expand school pick-up to PS 173 in the coming year.
Do you offer homework help?
Yes. Students have free time as part of each day, and we are happy to help them focus on homework during that time.
I want my child to learn piano but I am not interested in the choir, what should I do?
Choral singing is the core of our program and all students are expected to participate. We are proud to be able to offer piano lessons to many students, but space is limited and not all students receive piano lessons, especially in their first year of the program. If piano lessons are your primary interest, you may want to look elsewhere.
Is there an audition?
In order to make sure our program is a good fit for your child, all students must attend a brief evaluation/audition before they are accepted to the program. No preparation, musical knowledge, or experience is required, the evaluation is about ability to follow directions and willingness/interest in singing.
When does the program start?
Our 2024 Summer program takes place for one week, from August 26-30 Our 2024 - 2025 school year begins September 16th.
My child has other activities during the week, can they still participate?
Yes! However, because consistent attendance is one of the most important factors in student success in our program, we require students to commit to attending at least 3 days per week in order to participate.
Do I need to be a member of Holyrood Church to attend?
No! There is no religious content to the program and students do not need to be members of any specific denomination or religion to participate. Students may sing in a church service during the year.
